India, Italy to discuss market access issues

August 31, 2005 14:59 IST
India will take up with Italy trade-related issues, particularly market access problems faced by Indian exporters, when Commerce Minister Kamal Nath meets his Italian counterpart later this week.

Nath, who is visiting Italy from September 1-4, would discuss with Italian Minister for Productive Activities Claudio Scajola trade matters such as market access problems being faced by exporters of oilseeds, lentils and other products.

He is also expected to take up the key issue of the threshold limits in the new European Union Generalised System of Preferences scheme.

Nath is also scheduled to meet presidents of some leading design houses of Europe in Milan to enhance the industrial design component in garment, leather, automobile and other manufacturing sectors with a view to enable Indian goods to enlarge share in the export markets, an official release said.

The Commerce Minister would also address a seminar with a 'country focus' on India being organised by leading European think tank European House, it said.
