Timex MD gets global posting

Kapil Kapoor, managing director, Timex Watches Ltd, has joined the Indian talent pool being used by multinationals for international responsibilities.

Kapoor is now being relocated to the Timex headquarters at Middlebury, US, effective August 2003.

He will now have an expanded role as regional director south Pacific and India and will oversee the south Pacific operations of Timex International in strategic markets such as Philippines, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand in addition to running the Indian operations, a company statement said.

He will continue to be the managing director of the company. Prior to his Indian assignment, Kapoor was based in Bangkok and was looking after the Far-East operations.

Recently, a raft of multinational companies such as Reebok, Pepsi, Nestle Procter & Gamble and Hindustan Lever have started looking at India as a global talent pool.

While Reebok India marketing manager Harpreet Singh Thind recently moved to company's regional headquarters at Hong Kong as marketing director (Asia Pacific), Dhruv Parashar, incharge of the retail environment in India, has taken over as the head of retail operations (Asia Pacific).

Even Nestlé India has recognised the skills, leadership capabilities and the performance of its people and has offered positions at the Nestlé Group overseas to 50 Indian collaborators.

It has recently appointed Suresh Narayanan, the executive vice president (sales) at Nestlé India as executive vice president (sales and marketing) at Nestlé Thailand.

Narayanan will also advise the other markets of Indo China region including Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.

Vibha Paul Rishi of Pepsi joined the international marketing operations. Pepsi has instituted an incubation programme for deployment of its managers in its worldwide system.

HR consultants say functioning as managers in India is a good training ground for an international posting since they are exposed to multiple constraints including lopsided government policies and legal hurdles.

Thus, it becomes much more easier for them to work anywhere else in the world.
