Job adsA significant number of employees in the US are likely to switch to a new job in the next one year for better growth opportunities, says a survey.

According to a report by staffing firm SFN Group, 39 per cent of employees surveyed in May said they are likely to look for a new job in the next 12 months.

In April, 32 per cent of the employees indicated they are likely to make a job transition in the next 12 months.

The survey found that 54 per cent of employees (in the age group of 18-34) reported that they may change jobs in the next year.

According to human resource experts, employees are switching from their current jobs mainly to get better growth opportunities in other companies, coupled with prospects of a higher salary.

"Even amidst the volatility in the recovery, we continue to caution employers about the rising number of workers likely to make a job change.

"Now is the time for employers to ramp up retention

efforts to ensure their best talent does not opt to seek other opportunities," SFN Group president and chief executive officer Roy Krause said.

Moreover, women are less likely than men to make a job transition in the next 12 months.

About 54 per cent of the respondents earning less than $35,000 said they may make a job transition in the May survey.

This is up significantly from the 37 per cent in this income bracket who reported in the previous month.

Overall, the SFN Group Employee Confidence Index increased 0.5 points to 53.9 in May.

The index, which measures workers' confidence in their personal employment situation and optimism in the economic environment, shows that more workers are confident in the strength of the economy.

More employees believe the economy is getting stronger, with 28 per cent expressing confidence in May, as compared to 25 per cent in the previous month.

The survey was conducted among 1,268 employees by Harris Interactive on behalf of the SFN Group.
