Tarakeswar Chakraborty of AIBEA dead

All India Bank Employees Association general secretary and a leader of the bank union movement Tarakeswar Chakraborty died of a heart attack last night, family sources said.  

Chakraborty, 77, breathed his last at Kolkata's N S C Bose Airport. He was returning from Mumbai.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Chakraborty, who served Central Bank of India and retired in 1986, became the general secretary of AIBEA in 1980 and continued in the post till death.

United Forum of Bank Unions convenor Ashok Datta said, "With his sudden demise at this critical juncture, the trade union movement in the country in general and bankmen's struggle in particular will face a setback."
