Synopsis ties up with NGO to aid deprived children

May 25, 2006 17:41 IST

Synopsis Inc, a world leader in EDA software, announced on Thursday its partnership with Parikrma Humanity Foundation, an NGO providing education for deprived children, through sponsorship of an entire class at TNT Parikrma Centre for Learning.

Synopsis would contribute Rs 450,000 for supporting ICSE English education, providing three meals a day and healthcare for 30 slum children for an entire year, Shukla Bose, CEO, Parikrma, told reporters in Bangalore.

Dr Aart De Geus, chairman and CEO of Synopsis Inc, said the company's "philanthropic goals focus mainly on education with emphasis on math and science to develop a new generation of skilled technologists who can give back to their own communities". Synopsis spends about half a million dollar for such programmes worldwide, he said.

Parikrma aims to unleash the potential of deprived children as those coming from slums and street children. It manages centres of learning that impart high quality English ICSE education to these children to make them "face challenges in competitive world on an equal footing", Bose said.

At present, Parikrma has four centres covering 740 children from 26 slum communities in Bangalore, with less than 1 per cent drop-outs and 97 per cent attendance.

The organisation has partnered with Bangalore Mahanagara Palike schools to provide quality education.

"Our funding is mainly from individuals and corporates like Dell, Motorola, Levis Strauss, Adobe Systems and now Synopsis", Bose said.
