Vanishing firms: Police case against Gavaskar

The Registrar of Companies, Ahmedabad, has lodged a police complaint against legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar and four others here alleging that they did not use the amount raised through a public issue after floating a company.

RoC Prahlad Meena has lodged the complaint with J P Nagar police station against Gavaskar, now a leading TV commentator, and four others, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone) W Jamir said.

The five had floated Top Line Shoes Company on July 20, 1992 with its office in Alkapuri area of Vadodara, Jamir said, adding that they had come out with a public issue of Rs 4.56 crore (Rs 45.6 million).

The police was studying the details of the case and would proceed in investigations after that, he said.

Other persons named in the case are Vinod Mistry, H M B Moorty Mangappa, M M G Moorthy and Arun Kapa.

Gavaskar was not available for comments on the complaint.
