And now musical SMS from IDEA

August 06, 2003 15:50 IST

After Radio Jockeys, Disc Jockeys and Video Jockeys, the country is all set to have CJs or Cellular Jockeys, with a leading cellular company offering its users the facility of sending personalised short musical messages to their loved ones.

IDEA Cellular Limited has come up with a new scheme whereby cell phone users can send forth music messages by dedicating their favourite song to their loved ones with a personalised message in their own voice, a company release said in Mumbai on Wednesday.

A few clicks on their cell phones would enable the user to gain access to a wide repetoire of songs from 'occasion-specific' to current chartbusters in regional languages, the release said.

The user could also choose between Interactive Voice Response System and short messaging system to access the detailed menu of songs, it said.

They could choose numbers produced by international music groups like Beatles, Rolling Stones, Backstreet Boys, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Aerosmith or could have their choice of Indian favourites like Lata Mangeshkar, Sukhvinder, Suresh Wadkar and Jessie.

"We are targetting the youth and the young-at-heart, who are expected to adopt music messaging as fast as SMS," company CEO Sukhanta Dey was quoted as saying in the release.

"By sending an SMS or dialling 2345, the user could gain access to a user friendly menu which allows him/her to add a personalised message of 10 seconds in his or her own voice along with the song," Dey added.
