Sensex ends up 71 points at 19,163

The Sensex opened with a positive gap 118 points at 19,210. The index moved in a range of 190 points today with a high of 19,291 and a low of 19,098. The Sensex finally ended with a gain of 71 points at 19,163.

The Nifty closed up 15 points at 5,767.

With the market closed on Friday, the index declined 868 points (4.3%) during the holiday-shortened week.

While the small cap index slipped 102 points to 11,813, the mid cap index declined 55 points to 9026.

The IT index soared over 3% to 4321. The FMCG index was down over 1% at 2198.

The market breadth was negative - out of 2,950 stocks traded, 1,755 declined, 1,164 advanced and 31 were unchanged today.

Index Movers...

Satyam zoomed nearly 6% to Rs 428. Infosys gained 3.7% to Rs 1,698. TCS moved up over 2% to Rs 1,045, and Wipro added 1.8% to Rs 492.

Reliance Energy rallied 3% to Rs 1,940. Tata Motors was up 2.8% to Rs 711.

DLF and Mahindra & Mahindra were up 1% each at Rs 961 and Rs 785, respectively.

...And The Shakers

ACC dropped 2.8% to Rs 1,002. Cipla shed 2% at Rs 211.

Ranbaxy and ITC slipped 1.7% each to Rs 405 and Rs 196, respectively.

BHEL declined 1.3% to Rs 2,368, and Grasim was down nearly 1% at Rs 3,543.

Value & Volume Toppers

IFCI, which dropped 23% (Rs 23) to close at 77, logged a turnover of Rs 473.50 crore and trading of over six crore shares.

Reliance Energy (Rs 291.30 crore) was the second most active counter followed by Reliance (Rs 252 crore), Ispat Industries (Rs 175 crore) and Infosys (Rs 87 crore).

Ispat Industries (2.10 crore) was the second in the trading list followed by IKF Technologies (1.79 crore), Harig Cranks (1.28 crore) and G V Films (1.27 crore).
