Sensex ends up 12 points at 19,092

The Sensex opened with a significant positive gap of 175 points at 19,255, and soon rallied to a high of 19,398.

However, profit taking at higher levels saw the index pare gains as the day progressed.

Unabated selling saw the index slip into the negative zone to a low of 18,886 - down 512 points from the day's high.

The Sensex, however, rebounded into the positive zone and finally ended with a marginal gain of 12 points at 19,092.

The Nifty gained 9 points to close at 5,751.

The market breadth was fairly positive - out of 2,941 stocks traded, 1,876 advanced, 1,033 declined and 32 were unchanged today.

Index Movers...

Reliance Energy (REL) soared over 4% to Rs 1,883. ONGC surged 2.7% to Rs 1,181.

ICICI Bank rallied 1.8% to Rs 1,161. Infosys and TCS advanced 1% each to Rs 1,638 and Rs 1,021, respectively.

Tata Steel and ITC added 1% each to Rs 824 and Rs 200, respectively.

...And the shakers

ACC plunged 3.4% to Rs 1,031, and Maruti slumped 2.4% to Rs 995.

SBI shed 2% at Rs 2,258. HDFC and Grasim dropped 1.7% each to Rs 2,763 and Rs 3,575, respectively.

Tata Motors slipped over 1.5% to Rs 691, and NTPC was down 1.3% at Rs 230.

Value & Volume Toppers

Ispat Industries topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 316 crore followed by debutant Jyothy Labs (Rs 289.80 crore), Reliance (Rs 289.50 crore), IFCI (Rs 186.70 crore) and Reliance Energy (Rs 156.70 crore).

Ispat Industries led the volume chart with trades of around 3.73 crore shares followed IKF Technologies (2.86 crore), G V Films (2.60 crore), Himachal Futuristic (2.50 crore) and Kashyap Tec (1.96 crore).
