Sensex up 23 points at 13,703

The markets closed flat on Friday but have done well during the week. The markets were seen consolidating after seeing a significant run up earlier during the week.

In today's trade, select metal and power stocks provided support to the markets at lower levels. The Sensex closed up 22.50 points or 0.16% at 13,703.33, and the Nifty up 5.40 points or 0.14% at 3950.85.

About 1328 shares have advanced, 1154 shares declined, and 85 shares are unchanged. NTPC, Dr Reddy's Labs, Tata Steel, Hindalco, Zee and IPCL were the top gainers.

Hero Honda, Bharti Airtel, Reliance, L&T, Siemens, Suzlon Energy and GAIL were the top loser on the indices.

The BSE Midcap Index was up 0.7% or 39.42 points at 5,654.71.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed up 0.66% or 42.87 points at 6,523.03.

The BSE Auto Index was up 0.12 % or 6.52 points at 5,339.35. Apollo Tyres, Punj Tractors, Amtek Auto, Hind Motors, TVS Motor gained.

The BSE Bankex was up 0.05% or 3.53 points at 7,150.46. IOB, Kotak Mahindra, Bank of India, PNB and Bank of Baroda ended positive.

The BSE FMCG Index gained 0.4% or 8.01 points at 2,000.99. Nirma, P&G, Dabur India,  Colgate and Shaw Wallace closed up.

The BSE Health Care Index advanced 0.65% or 24.02 points at 3,743.78. Ipca Labs, Dr Reddy's Labs, Cipla, GlaxoSmithKline, Ranbaxy Labs rose.

The BSE IT Index closed with moderate gained 0.43% or 22.07 points at 5,156.87. I-Flex Solution, Hexaware Tech, Wipro, HCL Info and Infosys ended in green.

The BSE Metal Index surged 1.36% or 120.58 points at 9,015.39. Tata Steel, Welspun Guj, SAIL, Hindalco and JindalStainless witness buying interest.

The BSE Capital Goods Index tumbled 1.31% or -118.90 points at 8,991.20. Siemens, Crompton Greave, Thermax, KEC Infrastruct, Lakshmi Machine and Carborundum Universal slipped.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index closed in red 0.26% or 16.08 points at  6,178.39. Chennai Petro, Reliance Natural, IOC, GAIL and Reliance declined.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8179.7 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 26772.78 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 5228.04 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 40180.52 crore.

Sensex @ 1411 hrs

The markets are still trading in green but are off the day's high on account of some profit booking seen in capital good and frontline telecom stocks.

At 14.11 pm IST, the Sensex is up 36.57 points or 0.27% at 13,717.4, and the Nifty up 7.80 points or 0.20% at 3,953.25.

About 1393 shares have advanced, 1034 shares declined, and 84 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are NTPC at Rs 148.35 up 4.51%, SAIL at Rs 90.60 up 2.43%, Tata Steel at Rs 481.70 up 2.17% and Dr Reddys Labs at Rs 753.00 up  2.12%.

Top losers on the Sensex are Siemens at Rs 1,198.85 down 6.38%,  Hero Honda at Rs 739.00 down 1.06%, L&T at Rs 1,387.80 down 1.06% and Bharti Airtel at Rs 619.10 down 0.63%.

Most active shares on BSE are HDFC at Rs 1,645.05, Indiabulls at Rs 577.00 and Siemens at Rs 1,198.85.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,267.00 down 0.35% from its previous close of Rs 1,271.40.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,234.50 up 0.14% from its previous close of Rs 2,231.35.
