Sensex ends at a new high of 13,707

The markets were running for the second day and closed at new highs. The Sensex closed above the 13,700, Nifty breached 3950 levels and the midcap and smallcap indices held out as well.

The Sensex closed at a new high of 13,706.53, up 89.76 points or 0.66%. It touched an intraday high of 13,740.39 and an intra-day low of 13,625.09.

The Nifty also hit record close with 36.5 points or 0.93% at 3954.75. It touched an intraday high of 3960 and an intra-day low of 3909.60.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,600.56 up 53.70 points or 1%. The BSE small cap Index ended at 6,463.78 up 47.17 points or 0.74%.

The market breadth was positive, about 1277 shares advanced, 1216 shares declined, and 72 shares remained unchanged.

The NSE and BSE recorded cash turnover at Rs 10,443.96 crore (Rs 104.43 billion) and Rs 5,157.29 crore (Rs 51.57 billion), respectively. The NSE F&O turnover registered at Rs 33,194.03 crore (Rs 331.94 billion). The total turnover was at Rs 48,795.28 crore (Rs 487.95 billion).

Siemens was star performer for the day; it gained 9.67% at 1,330.65 as it bagged the order of Rs 4,000 crore (Rs 40 billion) in transmission and distribution segment. This order execution will start from next month and to be completed in 22 months. 90% of order come to Siemens India says management.

The BSE Capital Goods Index outperformered the other indices. Siemens, Aban Offshore, ABB, SKF India, BHEL and Crompton Greaves helped the index to surged 2.39% or 210 points at 9,004.53.

Auto stocks like Hind Motors, Exide Industries, Cummins, Sundram, Sundaram-Clayton, Amtek Auto, Hero Honda and Tata Motors also firmed up. The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,319.43, up 1.15%.

Nicholas Piramal, Novartis India, Sun Pharma, Cadila Healthcare, Cipla and Lupin surged. The BSE Healthcare Index rose 0.84% at 3,721.21.

Metal stocks including Hind Zinc, Jindal Saw, Sesa Goa, Nalco and Mah Seamless ended in green. The BSE Metal Index gained 0.65% at 8,841.

Banking stocks like Karnataka Bank, Bank of Baroda, Vijaya Bank, Bank of India, Andhra Bank and SBI helped the BSE Bankex to surge 0.68% at 7,127.08.

The BSE Oil & Gas Index ended up 0.48% at 6,225.54. Oil stocks including Reliance Natural, ONGC, GAIL and Reliance moved up.

Technology stocks like Satyam, HCL Info, Wipro, Patni Computer and Hexaware Tech also joined the party. The BSE IT Index rose 0.46% at 5,154.26.

Sensex @ 1403 hrs

The markets are trading strong near the day's high as heavy buyig is seen select IT frontliners and power stocks. At 14.03 pm IST, the Sensex is up 115.67 points or 0.85% at 13732.44, and the Nifty up 32.50 points or 0.83% at 3950.75.

About 1398 shares have advanced, 1015 shares declined, and 74 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Satyam at Rs 473.20 up 4.40%, Reliance Energy at Rs 552.90 up 3.78% and Wipro at Rs 587.20 up 3.25%, followed by Hero Honda.

Top losers on the Sensex are ITC at Rs 181.50 down 1.28%, HLL at Rs 246.05 down 1.01% and Infosys at Rs 2,234.95 down 0.76%

Top losers on the Nifty are HPCL at Rs 317.00 down 2.87%, BPCL at Rs 371.15 down 2.33% and Oriental Bank at Rs 243.00 down 2.1%

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 246.05 down 1.01% from its previous close of Rs 248.55.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,284.90 up 0.86% from its previous close of Rs 1,273.90.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,234.95 down 0.76% from its previous close of Rs 2,252.00.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 181.50 down 1.28% from its previous close of Rs 183.85.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 316.75 down 2.49% from its previous close of Rs 324.85.

Sensex @ 1251 hrs:

The markets continue to trade high as index pivotals Reliance Energy, Wipro and Satyam witness buying interest. At 12.51 pm IST, the Sensex is up 74.29 points or 0.55% at 13691.06, and the Nifty up 34.60 points or 0.88% at 3952.85.

About 1360 shares have advanced, 975 shares declined, and 72 shares are unchanged.

The BSE capital goods index was up 1.37% at 8,914.28.

Except FMCG BSE all other sectoral indices are trading in green.

The top gainers on the indices are, Reliance Energy at Rs 550.60 (3.35%), Wipro Rs 585.15 (2.89%), L&T at Rs 1,376.80 (2.13%) and Satyam at Rs 466.50 (3.01%)

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,287.00 up 1.03% from its previous close of Rs 1,273.90.

The top percentage gainers on the BSE are, Ecoplast at Rs 23.40 (20.00%), DMC Vaults at Rs 21.19 (18.05%) and C S Software at Rs 35.50 (16.01%).

Donear Ind at Rs 98.80 (volumes 94,29,485), Info Edge at Rs 584.00 (13,69,828) and Mahindra Gesco at Rs 995.00 (7,32,252) are the most active shares on BSE.

However, Tata Steel, HLL, HDFC, HPCL and BPCL are the top losers on the indices.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,236.80 down 0.67% from its previous close of Rs 2,252.00.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 182.70 down 0.63% from its previous close of Rs 183.85.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 315.50 down 2.88% from its previous close of Rs 324.85.

BSE Capital Good gainers:

Aban Offshore was quoting at Rs 1,080.00, up Rs 42.05, or 4.05%.

SKF India was quoting at Rs 307.00, up Rs 8.30, or 2.78%.

Crompton Greaves was quoting at Rs 271.70, up Rs 7.15, or 2.70%.

Sensex @ 1200 hrs:

The markets are sparking holding the gains on the back of buying seen in select frontline IT and power stocks. However, FMCG and oil stocks are witnessing selling pressure. At 12.00 pm IST, the Sensex is up 76.21 points or 0.56% at 13692.98, and the Nifty up 31.15 points or 0.79% at 3949.4.

About 1330 shares have advanced, 894 shares declined, and 69 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Wipro at Rs 583.90 up 2.67%, Reliance Energy at Rs 546.90 up 2.66% and Satyam at Rs 463.80 up 2.33%.

Top losers on the Sensex are HLL at Rs 245.80 down 1.11%,  ITC at Rs 182.30 down 0.84% and Infosys at Rs 2,233.10 down 0.84%.

Top gainers on the Nifty are SAIL at Rs 88.15 up 2.74%, Reliance Energy at Rs 547.50 up 2.71% and Suzlon Energy at Rs 1,469.80 up 2.67%

Top losers on the Nifty are HPCL at Rs 314.60 down 3.6%, BPCL at Rs 372.95 down 1.86% and GAIL at Rs 257.10 down 1.08%

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 245.50 down 1.23% from its previous close of Rs 248.55.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,275.35 up 0.11% from its previous close of Rs 1,273.90.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,237.00 down 0.67% from its previous close of Rs 2,252.00.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 182.50 down 0.73% from its previous close of Rs 183.85.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 315.40 down 2.91% from its previous close of Rs 324.85.

Sensex @ 1051 hrs:

The markets are trading firm at the higher level as buying is seen in frontline telecom, power and select IT stocks. At 10.51 am IST, the Sensex is up 75.47 points or 0.55% at 13692.24, and the Nifty up 25.65 points or 0.65% at 3943.9.

About 1308 shares have advanced, 635 shares declined, and 58 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Reliance Energy at Rs 548.50 up 2.96%, Bharti Airtel at Rs 641.00 up 2.80% and Wipro at Rs 582.00 up 2.34%.

Top losers on the Sensex are HLL at Rs 246.35 down 0.89%, Tata Steel at Rs 471.90 down 0.75% and ITC at Rs 183.10 down 0.41%.

Top losers on the Nifty are HPCL at Rs 315.50 down 3.32% and BPCL at Rs 373.55 down 1.7%.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 246.40 down 0.87% from its previous close of Rs 248.55.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,280.35 up 0.51% from its previous close of Rs 1,273.90.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,240.00 down 0.53% from its previous close of Rs 2,252.00.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 183.00 down 0.46% from its previous close of Rs 183.85.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 315.95 down 2.74% from its previous close of Rs 324.85.

Sensex @ 0958 hrs:

The markets opened in the green continuing the uptrend. At 9:58 am, the Sensex was up 70 points at 13,687 and Nifty up 19 points at 3,937.

L&T, Wipro, Rel Comm, ICICI Bk, TCS, Satyam, Reliance were among the gainers.

Auto stocks opened in the green. Oil stocks are subdued as crude oil prices has moved up

Asian stocks were mostly higher today, Japan's Nikkei was up 0.11%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.66%, Singapore's Straits Times advanced 0.41%, South Korea's Seoul Composite surged 0.66% and Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted rose 0.19%.
