Sensex up 46 points at 12,367

The markets ended in green but off the day's high on account of some profit booking during the later part of the day.

The Sensex and the Nifty crossed some important levels; Sensex breached 12,400 levels and the Nifty moved beyond 3,600 mark.

The Sensex closed up 45.72 points or 0.37% at 12366.91, and the Nifty up 7.55 points or 0.21% at 3579.3.

About 1283 shares have advanced, 1124 shares declined, and 85 shares are unchanged.  Reliance Energy, HDFC, Cipla, Maruti Udyog, Oriental Bank and Suzlon Energy were top gainers on the indices.

Hero Honda, L&T, Wipro, Tata Motors, Jet Airways, BPCL and M&M were top losers on the indices.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,054.09 up 32.74 points.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,043.13 up 22.62 points.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,273.10 up 0.21% or 10.98 points. Amtek Auto, Hind Motors, Maruti Udyog, MRF and Bharat Forge ended up.

The BSE Bankex was up 1.38% or 80.19 points at 5,877.91. UTI Bank, Vijaya Bank, Kotak Mahindra, Andhra Bank and Bank of India flared up.

The BSE Capital Goods Index up 0.22% at 8,199.33. Carborundum, Crompton Greave, Alstom Projects, Aban Offshore and Greaves Cotton gained.

The BSE FMCG Index gained 0.50% at 2,054.09. Nestle, Nirma, Dabur India, ITC and Britannia moved up.

The BSE Health Care Index was up 1.14% at 3,676.97. Sterling Bio, Apollo Hospital, Aventis Pharma and Cipla surged.

The BSE Metal Index was up 0.58% at 8,318.70. JSW Steel, Sterlite Ind, JindalStainless, Hind Zinc and Tata Steel closed up.

However, the BSE IT Index was down 0.07% or 2.93 at 4,389.18. Wipro, HCL Info, Satyam, HCL Tech and TCS ended lower.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index slipped 0.17% at 5,844.34. Reliance Natura, BPCL, Chennai Petro, MRPL were among the major losers.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7148.66 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 32903.08 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3943.51 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 43995.25 crore.

Sensex @ 1417 hrs

The markets have surged higher as buying was seen in banking, FMCG, pharma and metal stocks. At 2:17 pm, the Sensex was up 95 points at 12,416 and the Nifty up 23 points at 3,594.

The market breadth was positive, about 1367 shares have advanced, 942 shares declined, and 79 shares are unchanged.

HDFC (2.05%), ITC (1.85%), Reliance Energy (1.75%), Maruti Udyog (1.68%) and ICICI Bank (1.70%) were the top gainers on the bourses.

Top losers were Wipro (-0.66%), Hero Honda (-0.36%), Bharti Airtel (-0.21%) and M&M (-0.82%).

The BSE Bankex gained 1.5%. The BSE FMCG, Healthcare and Metal indices were up over 1%.

Sensex @ 1246 hrs

The markets continue to trade at higher levels on back of heavy buying interest in scrips across sectors. The BSE Bankex has outperformed the other indices.

At 12.46 pm, the Sensex is up 106.15 points or 0.86% at 12427.34, and the Nifty up 25.35 points or 0.71% at 3597.1.

About 1451 shares have advanced, 798 shares declined, and 76 shares are unchanged. All the BSE sectoral indices are trading in green.

The BSE Bankex has outperformed the other indices; it was up 1.40% at 81.19 points at 5,878.91.

HDFC at Rs 1,455 (2.48%), ICICI Bank at Rs 691.55 (2.00%), and ITC at Rs 187.10 (1.82%) are top gainers on the Sensex.

Reliance Energy at Rs 473.05 (2.07%), Siemens at Rs 1,091.00 (1.97%) and ITC at Rs 187.20 (1.88%) are top gainers on the Nifty.

Top percentage gainers on the BSE are, Winro Commercial at Rs 42.90 (20.00%), Shricon Ind at Rs 23.90 (19.98%), and Hiran Orgochem at Rs 81.70 (19.97%).

Schenectady at Rs 33.00 (32.00%), Rama Newsprint at Rs 28.05 (20.13%), and Nava Bharat Ven at Rs 111.05 (18.14%) are the top percentage gainers on the NSE

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 262.10 up 1.33% from its previous close of Rs 258.65.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,188.00 up 0.82% from its previous close of Rs 1,178.30.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,841.00 up 0.52% from its previous close of Rs 1,831.50.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 297.20 up 0.69% from its previous close of Rs 295.15.

BSE Bankex gainers:

Vijaya Bank was quoting at Rs 53.60, up Rs 2.25, or 4.38%.

UTI Bank was quoting at Rs 364.80, up Rs 14.40, or 4.11%.

Kotak Mahindra Bank was quoting at Rs 322.50, up Rs 11.30, or 3.63%.

Andhra Bank was quoting at Rs 92.20, up Rs 2.95, or 3.31%

Sensex @ 1155 hrs

The markets are trading strong with sustained buying in scrips across sectors.

At 11.55 am IST, the Sensex is up 96.80 points or 0.79% at 12417.99, and the Nifty up 24.20 points or 0.68% at 3595.95.

About 1327 shares have advanced, 752 shares declined, and 83 shares are unchanged.

All sector indices are trading in positive terrain with banking and healthcare stocks leading the rally.

Top gainers on the indices are Siemens up 2.05%, HDFC up 1.86%, ICICI Bank up 1.77%,  and Cipla up 1.32%

Top losers on the Sensex are Hero Honda down 0.36% and Wipro down 0.16%

Most active shares on BSE are Unity Infraproj, Lok Housing and Alstom Projects. 

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 259.30 up 0.25% from its previous close of Rs 258.65.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,185.80 up 0.64% from its previous close of Rs 1,178.30.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,843.00 up 0.63% from its previous close of Rs 1,831.50.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 186.15 up 1.31% from its previous close of Rs 183.75.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 294.00 down 0.39% from its previous close of Rs 295.15.

Sensex @ 1040 hrs

The markets are on an uptrend with heavy buying seen in scrips across sectors. At 10.40 am, the Sensex is up 116 points at 12437, and the Nifty up 29 points at 3601. Nifty has hit 3,600 for first time since May 18.

About 1126 shares have advanced, 389 shares declined, and 41 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the indices are ICICI Bank, HDFC, Cipla, Suzlon Energy and Siemens.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 259.35 up 0.27% from its previous close of Rs 258.65.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,187.00 up 0.74% from its previous close of Rs 1,178.30.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,845.00 up 0.74% from its previous close of Rs 1,831.50.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 186.20 up 1.33% from its previous close of Rs 183.75.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 295.00 down 0.05% from its previous close of Rs 295.15.

Markets @ 9.56 am


The markets have opened with positive gains as global cues were in a strong strength and buying was seen in technology, cement, oil and auto stocks. At 9.57 am, the Sensex was up 96 points at 12,417. The Nifty was up 23 points at 3,595.

Gainers in the morning were Reliance, Infosys, Wipro, Satyam, HCL Tech, Ranbaxy, ONGC, Maruti, SBI, ITC, Zee, Tata Steel and L&T.

Asian markets were trading higher; Japan's Nikkei gained 247.12 points or 1.59% at 15,804.57. Emerging markets also ended higher on Tuesday.

Wall Street surged higher; the Dow gained 93.58 points, or 0.81%, to 11,669.39.
