Sensex gains 125 points at close

The markets showed a surprise rally today; they opened weak but moved up significantly on the back of heavy buying in scrips across sectors. The Sensex closed at 11,531.95 up 125 points. The Nifty gained 35 points to close at 3370.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,783.80 up 36 points or 0.6%.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,771.24 up 12 points or 0.25%.
Most of the BSE sectoral indices closed in the positive terrain.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 2.6% at 5,562.30. Reliance, GAIL, IOC, MRPL and BPCL closed higher.
The BSE Metal Index advanced by 2% at 8,251.14. Hindalco, Sterlite Ind, Hind Zinc, Tata Steel witnessed buying interest.

The BSE Auto Index gained 1.1% at 4,930.82. Hind Motors, Sundram, MICO, Hero Honda and Tata Motors were among the top gainers.

The BSE FMCG Index closed was up 0.6% at 1,963.18. Nestle, Dabur India, HLL and ITC closed in green.
The BSE Health Care Index rose 0.7% at 3,497.40. GlaxoSmithKline, Apollo Hospital, Pfizer, Orchid Chemical and Matrix Lab rose on the bourses.

The BSE Bankex was up 0.5% at 5,169.66. PNB, Bank of India, Oriental Bank, Union Bank, Vijaya Bank and SBI moved upwards.

The BSE IT Index was up 0.4% at 4,221.89. Hexaware Tech, HCL Tech, Wipro, HCL Info and Satyam advanced.
The BSE Capital Goods Index closed flat at 7,651.54. Aban LoydChiles, Greaves Cotton, BEML, Thermax closed higher.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 6737.86 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 26172.71 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3150.19 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 36060.76 crore.
