Sensex gains 236 points at close

The markets saw heavy buying interest and ended the day with healthy gains.

The Sensex closed above the 10,275.88 up 235.74 points and the Nifty was up 71.3 points at 2,994.7.  It was a broad based rally and buying was seen in scrips across sectors.

The positive sentiment was seen in markets across the globe, the Asian markets were shining, emerging markets were in green and the European markets also opened strong.

The major gainers on the indices were HDFC, L&T, Hindalco, SBI, M&M and PNB.  The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,492.77, up 168.8 points.  The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,416.41, up 92.77 points.

Apart from the BSE cosumer durable all the BSE sectoral indices are in green. BSE metal index is the top performer followed by the auto index.

The major gainers on the indices were Tata Motors, ACC, Cipla, Maruti Udyog and  MTNL.

The BSE Capital Goods Index moved up by 4.2% at 6,916.28. Lakshmi Machine, L&T, Praj Industries, KEC Infrastructure and ABB closed higher.

The BSE Bankex was up 3.8% at 4,469.49. IOB, UTI Bank, PNB, Oriental Bank and Andhra Bank closed in positive terrain.
The BSE Metal Index advanced by 3.6% at 8,075.39. Hind Zinc, Nalco, Hindalco, SAIL and Jindal Steel witnessed buying interest.

The BSE Auto Index added 2.66% at 4,651.98. M&M, Apollo Tyres, Cummins, Asahi India, Hind Motors and Ashok Leyland closed in positive terrain.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index was rose 1.74% at 4,974.29. Chennai Petro, ONGC, GAIL, BPCL and Kochi Refinery advanced higher.

The BSE IT Index was up by 1.63% at 3,560.35. HCL Info, Satyam, Wipro and TCS moved up.

The BSE FMCG Index was up 0.8% at 1,855.66. P&G, Dabur India, Tata Tea, Nirma and ITC closed in green.

The BSE Health Care Index was up by 0.35% at 3,156.29. Matrix Lab, Novartis India, Sun Pharma, Biocon, Orchid Chemical and GlaxoSmithKline were among the major gainers.

The BSE Consumer Durables Index lost 0.55% at 2,747.91.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 6461.34 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 22995.94 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3254.50 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 32711.78 crore.

Sensex @ 1430 hrs

The markets are trading at the higher level, at 2:30 the Sensex was up 280 points at 10320 and the Nifty was up 85 points at 3008.

Asian markets closed in the positive and the European markets opened with a gain of around 1%.

About 2059 shares have advanced, 334 shares declined, and 33 shares are unchanged.
The major gainers on the indices are L&T, HDFC, Hindalco, Grasim, Nalco, M&M.

The major losers on the indices were Dr Reddys Labs, Bharti Airtel, Jet Airways, HCL Tech.

Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 220.00 up 0.76%, Reliance was trading at Rs 987.00 up 2.38%, Infosys was trading at Rs 2,964.50 up 1.62% and ITC was trading at Rs 172.40 up 2.16% from its previous close of Rs 168.75.

Sensex @ 1338 hrs

The broad based market rally in the markets continues as buying is seen in scrips across sectors.

At 1:38 pm,  the BSE Sensex was trading at 10306 up 266 points and the Nifty was up 84 points at 3007.

Asian markets were trading strong, emerging markets were also stable and the European markets have opened on a positive note.

About 2059 shares have advanced, 295 shares declined, and 27 shares are unchanged. The major gainers on the indices were HDFC, ICICI Bank, Hindalco, ONGC, Jet Airways and SAIL.

Sensex @ 12:35 hrs

The market are upbeat and are continuing to display strength with increased buying interest in stocks across sectors.

At 12:35 pm, the Sensex was trading at 10347 up 307.06 points and the Nifty was trading at 3015 up 91 points.

About 2047 shares have advanced, 265 shares declined, and 25 shares are unchanged.

All the BSE sectoral indices continue to trade in the green. Heavy buying is seen in metal, auto and banking sector.

The major gainers on the indices were HDFC, Hindalco, Tata Motors, ONGC, Jet Airways and SAIL.

Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 223.40 up 2.31%, Reliance was trading at Rs 989.50 up 2.63% and ITC was trading at Rs 173.70 up 2.93%.

Sensex @ 1130 hrs

The markets are stable at the higher level in line with the markets across the globe. At 11:30 am, the Sensex was trading at 10292 up 252 points and the Nifty is still flirting with the 3000 level. It was trading at 2997, up 73 points.

In the Asian markets, Nikkei was up 340 points, Straits Times up 1.4%, Taiwan is up nearly 3%, Kospi is up 1.5% and Hang Seng is up 1.2%. lots of rays of sunshine out there for across Asia.

In emerging markets, Russia was flat, Brazil was up nearly 3% and Mexico was up 2% and Chile up about 1%.

About 1881 shares have advanced, 217 shares declined, and 32 shares are unchanged.

All the BSE sectoral indices continue to trade in the green. Heavy buying is seen in metal, auto and banking sector.

The major gainers on the indices are HDFC up 5.31%, Tata Motors up 4.45%, HDFC Bank up 3.48%, Wipro up 3.46%, Jet Airways up 6.85%, NALCO up 5.04% and SAIL up 4.8%.

Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 223.25 up 2.24%, Reliance was trading at Rs 987.00 up 2.38% from its previous close of Rs 964.10. Infosys was trading at Rs 2,971.60 up 1.87% and ITC was trading at Rs 172.85 up 2.43%.

Markets @ 11:06

The markets are flying on the back of sustained buying. At 10.36 am, the Sensex was up 269.02 points or 2.68% at 10309.16, and the Nifty up 79.05 points or 2.70% at 3002.5.

About 1714 shares have advanced, 137 shares declined, and 31 shares are unchanged.

All the BSE sectoral indices were in green.

The BSE Metal index outperformed the other indices, it was up by 3.71% at 8083.31 amid buying are seen in Sesa Goa , SAIL, Nalco, Guj NRE Coke, Hindalco and Jindal Steel.

The BSE Auto index was up by 3.35% at 4683.12.

The BSE bank, capital goods, consumer duralble, FMCG, IT and oil & gas indices were up by over 2% each.

Marginal buying was also seen in pharma stocks.

HDFC, Hindalco, Tata Motors, Maruti Udyog, SAIL, Nalco, and Jet Airways were top gainers on the indices.

Only Dr Reddys Labs and HCL Tech were trading in red on the Sensex and the Nifty.

HDFC was quoting at Rs 1,089.90, up Rs 69.15, or 6.77%.

Smooth sailing for SAIL. It was quoting at Rs 75.10, up Rs 4.30, or 6.07%.

Nalco was quoting at Rs 234.80, up Rs 10.55, or 4.70%.

Good take off for Jet Airways. It was quoting at Rs 751.00, up Rs 45.30, or 6.42%.

Sensex @ 10:25

The markets kick started with a significant positive gap mirroring the strong global trend. The Sensex opened up 253 points at 10293 and the Nifty was up 74 points at 2997.

The index soon rallied and is now up 273 points at 10,313. The NSE Nifty is up 79 points at 3002.

The global markets are smiling too.
