Scope absorbs graduating students

Scope International, the wholly-owned captive shared service centre of Standard Chartered Group has absorbed 30 per cent of the 24 graduating students attending the six-month training programme of Ability Foundation in various business units.

This was following a three-day workshop for graduates that Scope had conducted between March 29 and 31, 2005 where a skills assessment of these candidates was done and business heads in Scope identified relevant areas where they can be absorbed.

The 24 graduates included visual, hearing and orthopedic impaired, according to a company release. The workshop inaugurated by R Natraj, commissioner of police, covered topics like motivation, interview skills, positive thinking and employment opportunities.

The chosen graduates will be trained in diverse activities like administration, basic data entry and invoicing in the wholesale and retail banking operations. Scope is not entirely new to hiring physically challenged individuals and has many of them already on its rolls.

Ability Foundation, founded in 1995, is a non-governmental organisation with a national focus on the disability sector. At one of its armsĀ -- National Centre for Information and Communication Technology, a six-month course is offered to physically challenged.

The course comprises computer applications, English, personality development, yoga, communication skills, interview skills, preparation for interviews.
