Labourers in Saudi Arabia have asked authorities to enact a law that bans open-air work from 11 am to 3 pm during summer months due to potential health hazards.

During summer, workers in Gulf countries have to brave temperatures which sometimes reach 50 degree celsius and many suffer from sunstroke after spending hours under the scorching summer sun.

Construction workers, maintenance personnel and cleaners in the country's Ahsa province urged the authorities to pass a law that would restrict companies from sending workers to construction sites during the peak summer season, Arab News reported.

Workers have suggested that the companies should stop work during day hours especially in the summer months of June, July and August. It has been suggested that companies provide proper lighting facilities for work after sunset, as is the case during the holy month of Ramadan.
