In a measure that could adversely affect many Indian workers, Saudi Arabia is set to implement a new labour law next month that would cancel employment contracts for men at the age of 60 and women at 55.

The provision is contained in a new Labour Law scheduled to be implemented from April 13, local media reported on Thursday.

The rate of jobs set aside for Saudi residents in private companies will be raised to 75 per cent with the implementation of the new law, according to Arab News daily.

The suspension of Article 75 pertaining to the provision of a worker's termination is a special feature of the new law.

However, those working in the field of sport clubs, including players, are exempt from the provision, it said.

The law also instructs the Labour Ministry to establish employment offices to provide free service to Saudi job seekers and employers, the report said adding that these offices will register the names of Saudis of working age.

Employers have been instructed to inform the offices of job vacancies, types of jobs, conditions and salaries, the report added.
