July 26, 2006 13:45 IST

Software services firm Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd has acquired Finland-based Botnia Hightech Oy, a leading provider of wireless research and development and testing services, for about Rs 209 crore (Rs 2.09 billion).

Through this acquisition, Sasken would be able to establish its presence in Finland, which would be an addition to its already present global development centres in Mexico, China and India. "Botnia's European presence and their expertise combined with Sasken's global reach and India-based development centres will enable us to offer a compelling portfolio of value added solutions to our customers across the globe," chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Sasken, Rajiv Mody, said.

Sasken, a leading provider of research and development and support outsourcing

services to companies across the communications value chain, is looking to scale its offering portfolio faster with this acquisition. Botnia's customer base would further complement its strategy of leveraging its services to Tier 1 customers, the company said.

In a filing on the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sasken informed that a definitive agreement had been signed between the two companies and integration planning would commence immediately.

Botnia Hightech is a supplier of hardware, software, mechanical design and testing services to leading mobile handset vendors. Besides operating in Finland, it has had operations in Denmark and Germany.
