Bengal inks pact with Salim group

The West Bengal government signed an agreement with New Kolkata International Development Pvt Limited on Monday to develop infrastructure in the state, including health, education, industrial and housing complexes.

As per the agreement, the special purpose vehicle would develop various projects in about 15 years, including a special economic zone, at Haldia over 12,500 acres and mega chemical industrial estates, including a chemical SEZ over 10,000 acres of land at Nandigram in East Midnapur district of the state.

The SPV would build a highway between Barasat (North 24 Parganas) and Raichak (South 24  Parganas) and would be called Eastern Link Highway. The total land required for the highway is estimated to be 2500 acres.

The project, New Kolkata International Development, would spread over 38,650 acres. The SPV is a constorium of Indonesian group Salim, Universal Success group and Indian partner Unitech.

The agreement was signed between West Bengal Industry Secretary Sabyasachi Sen, Salim group's Beni Santoso and West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Managing Director Debasis Som in the presence of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya in Kolkata.
