S Railway to step up reservation facilities

March 02, 2007 13:53 IST

As part of steps to improve facilities, the Southern Railway would be taking a series of steps including increasing the speed of the data circuit and providing additional counters to reduce the length of the queues in front of reservation counters in the zone.

According to official sources, a survey also would be conducted on the peak-hour queue length in front of the counters and deployment of staff and computers would be done as per supply

and demand.

The queue at the counters had already considerably reduced due to e-ticketing,buying ticket using ATM facility etc. But more steps would be taken to reduce the queue further.

Optical fibre cables would also be laid on trunk routes to increase the speed of the network. A programme to educate people on e-ticketing was also being done.

The processing speed of the data circuit would be increased from 65 KHPS to 2MB as a first step.
