R World goes paid from April 1

R World, the mobile data application suite on Reliance IndiaMobile, will be a paid service from April 1, 2005.

"Ours is the only telecom company in the country that has made significant investments in creating this new category of application that has no parallel in India," said Kamal Nanavaty, COO, Reliance Infocomm, in a press statement.

R World tariff structure has been devised keeping in mind customer convenience, affordability and flexibility of use. The charges would range from Rs 2 to Rs 25 and applications have been classified into four categories:

  • Membership,
  • Pay-on-entry,
  • Pay-on-use, and
  • Free.

Specially designed icons (for Membership, for pay-on-entry, for pay-on-use and for free) will denote the type of charges associated with each application every time a subscriber visits R World.

Note: There are no separate charges other than the ones stated above. Pay-on-entry & Pay-on-use could be used without enrolling in either monthly or day membership plan.

Membership category with an option of monthly membership or a day pass comprises frequently used applications.

Monthly membership will be Rs 25, whereas a day pass (valid for 24 hours) will cost Rs 3. There are no additional charges. Over 65 applications have been grouped under this category.

Applications that are impulsive in nature have been classified under pay-on-entry and pay-on-use categories. Pay-on-entry category includes applications such as railway booking, Web mail, mobile banking, and will cost Rs 2 to Rs 4 per log-on, irrespective of the usage duration.

Pay-on-use category includes applications such as ringtones, picture greetings, exam results, cricket score updates and NSE quotes. These will be charged between Rs 2 and Rs 10.

For all Dhirubhai Ambani Pioneer Offer customers, monthly membership charges have been waived off.
