Reliance Mobile, the limited mobility cellular service of Reliance Infocomm, has said its short messaging service (SMS) is in a testing phase and the glitches being reported in various sections will be rectified soon.

Reliance Mobile's assurance comes after users of other global system for mobile networks complained that messages emanating from Reliance's network keep on repeating, thus jamming up the recipients' inbox, and in turn preventing them from receiving new messages.

In fact, they have complained that the same message keeps on coming for over three to four days.

A Reliance Infocomm spokesperson said, "We are currently in testing phase for SMS. In the next few days you will find SMS from and to Reliance India Mobile working smoothly without a glitch."

Another problem being faced is the messages reaching the wrong people. For instance, a person from Kolkata messaging a person in Mumbai finds that the SMS has reached a person in Bangalore (using another network) and the person finds that the message keeps coming for a long time. Reacting to the issue, the spokesperson said the problem lay in other networks.

According to the official, "Many other networks have been slow in interconnecting. Often the problems you have cited result on account of other network problems. These are being resolved by us."

The inter-operability between code division multiple access and GSM networks is also cited as a major problem by Reliance Infocomm. "We are working with other operators for making SMS inter-operable between CDMA and GSM networks. We are implementing a cross-technology between CDMA and GSM for sending SMS messages across these different platforms. This is the first time in the world such a cross technology between CDMA and GSM is being implemented for SMS," the spokesman added.

Reliance Infocomm made a soft launch of its limited mobility services in January this year, while the commercial launch was from May 1 and currently has more than a million subscribers.
