Infosys chairman and chief mentor NR Narayana Murthy on Saturday said it was the right of the US government to determine the visa fees.

"We do not have any right to question their policy. We must accept whatever has been handed to us. I don't think we should criticise US policies at all", he said on the US Border Security Act.

He was addressing the media in Pune on the occasion of the alumni meet of Systems Research Institute.

"We can come up with new ideas, increase competitiveness, bring new solutions and revenue productivity. There will be no short-term impact of this. It is not like the US is targeting Indian IT companies. There could be companies from Germany, the UK and Japan which may come within the same dispensation. I have always believed that innovation has an important role, not only in software but in any business."

When asked about the "chop-shop" comment by a US senator, Murthy said, "Infosys is evaluating data in this regard. We will analyse it and come up with a public statement very soon." Recently, US Senator Charles E Schumer said that Indian IT companies like Infosys were "chop-shops".

Talking about Infosys' Pune development centre, he said, "Pune is a place known for higher education and attracts good talent. Infosys had the second-largest development centre in Pune. It has an opportunity to bring innovations and new ideas and could be the topmost centre in the country. We all will be very happy if it does so."

Speaking about his association with SRI, Murthy said he had learnt many things from Prof JG Krishnayya, the founder of the institute.

SRI was a role model for thinking, he said, adding that he learnt how to start every transaction at zero and how to be open minded to ideas and discussions.
