Railways earnings increase by more than 11%

TrainRailways have earned Rs 65,354.64 crore (Rs 653.54 billion) during the April-September period as compared to Rs 58,661.79 crore (Rs 586.61 billion) during the same period last year, registering an increase of 11.41 per cent.

The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 40,293.70 crore (Rs 402.93 billion) April–September 2012 to Rs 44,191.92 crore (Rs 441.91 billion) during the corresponding period this year, registering a growth of 9.67 per cent, according to Railway Ministry data.

The passenger earnings during this six month period were Rs 18,099.83 crore (Rs 180.99 billion) as against Rs 15,582.42 crore (Rs 155.82 billion) during the same period last year, an increase of 16.16

per cent.

The earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 1850.22 crore (Rs 18.5 billion) during April-September 2013 compared to Rs 1510.59 crore (Rs 15.1 billion) during the same period last year, an increase of 22.48 per cent.

The total passengers booked during April–September 2013 were 4257.55 million compared to 4270.09 million during the same period last year.

In the suburban sector, 2275.20 million passengers were booked during this period as compared to 2212.06 million in the same period last year, an increase of 2.85 per cent.

However, in the non-suburban sector, 1982.35 million passengers were booked as against 2058.03 million during the same period last year, showing a decrease of 3.68 per cent.
