The agreement for the sale of e-tickets through IOC's distribution network was signed by IOC executive director (retail sales) A M K Sinha and IRCTC managing director Pradeep Goel.
About 500 IOC petrol stations will be authorised to book tickets online and provide identity card details of the traveller. They will issue a receipt of payment to the customer including details of service tax collected.
Tickets can be booked between 5 am and 11.30 pm on all days. Payment by these centres to IRCTC for booking tickets will also be made online, IOC said.
Speaking on the occasion, Goel said the IRCTC, which was set up to outsource the entire catering and tourism activity of Indian Railways, has development service for delivering tickets at customers' door-steps in Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Mumbai.
Sinha said IOC sales outlets are one of the major touch points for a commuter. "We will continue to offer services that will enhance the quality time of customers, many of whom multi-task their way, throughout the day."
