Oriental Bank to hire 1,550 in 6 months

State-run lender Oriental Bank of Commerce plans to recruit about 1,550 personnel, including 100 marketing managers, over the next six months in order to meet its man-power requirement and proposed branch expansion.

"The bank intends to recruit more than 1,550 personnel, including 100 marketing managers and 83 agriculture officers and some specialist officers, during 2009-10," OBC executive director H Rathnakara Hegde told PTI.

Last fiscal, the bank had recruited 1,427 personnel in various cadre.

Fresh recruitment would help bank in meeting its man power requirements for its proposed branch and business expansion, he said.

The bank is planning to open about 103 branches by the end of December.

The bank has got licence to open 117 branches from the banking sector regulator, he said, adding that it has already opened 14 branches and remaining will come up by the end of this year.

For the second quarter ended September 2009, the OBC reported a 14.31 per cent growth in net profit at Rs 270.80 crore on the back of increase in interest income and other income.
