Oracle is set to recruit about 300 IT professionals in India by this year-end, Keith Budge, regional managing director, South Asia, Oracle said on Monday.
"'India is very important for our global network and will continue to be so in future as well. Right now we have about 3,700 people in India and hope to increase this to 4,000 by the end of this year," Budge said while speaking at Infocom 2003, organised by National Association of Software and Service Companies, and Business World, in Kolkata.
He, however, said India was facing competition from Thailand and Vietnam in the IT sector so far as Oracle was concerned, as these two countries had accounting standards similar to that of the United States.
"Good news for India is that its domestic IT market is growing. India has moved up a couple of places to be 5th in Asia among leading IT consumers and I hope that it will be 3rd leading spender in Asia in the years to come," Budge said.
