Oilmeal exports scale new height

Data released by the Solvent Extractors' Association of India has shown huge rise in exports of oilmeal from India.

According to the data, oilmeal export has gone up by 8 per cent to 432,950 tonnes in April 2007 compared with 399,225 tonnes in the corresponding month last year.

The association has pointed out that growth in the shipment of rapeseed, which more than doubled to 108,375 tonnes from 53,425 tonnes, is the main reason for the jump in exports.

Exports of oilseeds to Vietnam witnessed a 75 per cent rise to 178,625 tonnes, of which 140,975 tonnes were soymeal, 4,400 tonnes were rapeseed and the remaining 33,200 tonnes were ricebran extraction.

Exports to Japan witnessed a huge rise of 71 per cent to 45,500 tonnes from 26,650
tonnes. Indonesia also recorded a 21-per cent rise in oilmeal imports from India at 43,325 tonnes, up from 35,875 tonnes in April last year.

In contrast, China imported 36 per cent less (65,175tonnes) from India in April this year compared with 101275 tonnes in the same month last year. Exports to South Korea also reported a marginal decline of 4 per cent at 72,325 tonnes in April this year against 8,6025 tonnes in the corresponding period last year.

Exports from Kandla port was reported at 271,725 tonnes (up 63 per cent), followed by Mumbai, which handled 55,450 tonnes (up 13 per cent), Bedi 52,700 tonnes (a rise of 12 per cent), Kakinada 38,225 tonnes (a rise of 9 per cent) and Vizag 14,850 tonnes (a marginal jump of 3 per cent).
