The fire raging in an oil well of Oil India Ltd in Assam's Dibrugarh district continued for the fifth day on Monday as experts remained engaged in an unprecedented operation to douse the flames within a week's time.

"The operation is unprecedented and war-like as we have to seek equipments from all over the country. With the experts, including the Americans from the Boots and Coots company working round-the-clock we hope to get a control over the flames within possibly a week's time," group general manager and head of OIL's operation in the state J K Talukdar told PTI in Guwahati.

Talukdar, who visited the site said there was uncontrolled flow of oil and with the blaze raging in angular direction the job to control the fire has got difficult.

The experts have studied the situation and gradually trying to bring the blaze to a vertical direction after which successful water blanketing could be undertaken to douse the fire, he said.

"As we do not have the required equipments a plan has been worked out and the equipments have to be mobilised from different parts of the country as well as from Sibsagar and Nazira," the OIL official said.
