NTPC to float tender for 11 supercritical units

The country's largest power producer, NTPC, will soon float a tender to procure equipment for eleven 660 MW supercritical thermal power units as part of its 100 day programme.

"The company would float a notice inviting tender for procurement of 7,260 MW supercritical thermal power units," a company official said.

The 11 units comprise two 660 MW units for the Damodar Valley Corporation and nine for the NTPC.

The NTPC and DVC have already received the techno-economic clearance to buy Rs 21,000 crore (Rs 210 billion) worth of power equipment for their upcoming thermal power generation plants from the Central Electricity Authority.

The equipment would be procured through the international competitive bidding route. The bidders should have a manufacturing base in India.

NTPC also plans to commission 750 MW power capacity during the 100 day programme.

"We will commission 500 MW unit at Kahalgaon (Bihar) and start commercial operation of the 250 MW thermal power project at Bhilai in Chhatissgarh," a company official said. 

The 250 MW Bhilai expansion thermal power project is a joint venture between NTPC and the Steel Authority of India.

Starting up of civil works at (2x500 MW) the Rihand project in Madhya Pradesh and 1,000 MW Stage-IV Vindhyachal in Uttar Pradesh is also part of the company's agenda during its 100 day programme.

NTPC has already acquired a 44.6 per cent stake in Transformers and Electricals Kerala for Rs 31.34 crore (Rs 313.4 million) from the state government.

The company plans to adopt 12 Industrial Training Institutes.
