Nicholas Piramal India on Monday announced a strategic alliance with French major Laboratories Pierre Fabre to exclusively market its dermo-cosmetics and dermatology range of products in India.

The range includes products for skin and hair care and for important dermatological ailments. Initially, NPIL will market global brands from Ducray & Aderma range of products, such as Exomega, a moisturising cream with oat milk and Kertyol-S, an anti-inflammatory and kerato-reducing shampoo. The portfolio will be expanded with other dermo-cosmetic range of products from the Pierre Fabre stable in due course, the company said.

Swati Piramal, director (strategic alliances), NPIL, said, "With these formulations, NPIL is looking at entering the dermo-cosmetic segment -- the future for dermatology. This will help us open new avenues to introduce more brands from Pierre Fabre stable."

Guy Macy, general manager, Ducray & Aderma Dermatological Laboratories, Pierre Fabre, said, "This is the first overseas market where we are coming with a combination deal, as Nicholas Piramal apart from marketing our products in India will also add value to the final stages of manufacturing. India presents a huge opportunity that we can best leverage through this alliance."

The market for Exomega, the moisturising cream in the emollients and protective segment, is worth over Rs 35 crore (Rs 350 million) and is currently growing at 13 per cent per annum, being among the most attractive segments in dermatology.

Kertyol-S, kerato-reducing anti-fungal shampoo operates in a market worth around Rs 27 crore (Rs 270 million). The two products will be marketed by the Glotek division of Nicholas Piramal, the company said in a media release.

Laboratories Pierre Fabre is the second largest privately owned French company. It commands 20 per cent market share in skin care and 25 per cent in hair care categories in the French pharma market.
