February 20, 2008 13:27 IST
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has awarded international long distance (ILD) and national long distance (NLD) licences to global telecom major Cable & Wireless.

These licences will enable Cable & Wireless, along with its joint venture company TTK Group, to offer both national and international long-distance services directly to customers in India.

Cable & Wireless will roll out of its next generation network (NGN) across the country. It will also offer managed internet protocol services and managed network services.

"India is booming and these licences will enable us to roll out one of the most advanced NGNs yet to be seen in this region. This will serve both our customers that need to do business in India, and also Indian companies who need to reach out to the rest of the international business community," said Jim Marsh, CEO (Europe, Asia and US), Cable & Wireless Europe.
