Information technology education major NIIT Ltd has planned to focus on expanding its knowledge solutions business (KSB) in the United States and European markets by cashing in on the growing trend of outsourcing the services of customised content development and training of workforce.
The company, as part of its expansion strategy in the segment, has acquired a couple of knowledge solution firms in the US and set up content development centres in Malaysia and the US, besides Delhi and Mumbai, Neeraj Agarwal, NIIT head (content and publishing), KSB, said in New Delhi.
Total revenue earned by NIIT from customised content development stood at about $20-25 million, he said.
"There is huge potential in the field given that the US market alone has a size of $5-7 billion per annum," Agarwal said.
The company, which ventured into KSB in 1988 through setting up of an internal courseware development group, has already published 400 titles, he added.
Besides, NIIT was also providing multimedia educational learning material for the 'Smart Schools' project of the Malaysian government and offering online tutorial in the US.
NIIT's thrust on the overseas market for expanding the knowledge solutions business was mainly because of the relative apathy of the Indian companies towards outsourcing the services of content development and training, Agarwal said.
The domestic market contributed only 10 per cent of the revenue flow in the segment.
The company earlier had acquired the custom content development business of Click2learn, an e-learning major, and CognitiveArts, a leader in custom knowledge solutions in the US, to strengthen the global knowledge solutions practice with science and technology of simulation-based training.
Besides customised content development, the KSB offers solutions to develop and enhance learner skills, increase employee productivity and improve organisation's business results.
The practice extends to customised e-learning and knowledge management solutions to clients across the globe, he added.
