IT industry body Nasscom has asked the government to set up special or fast track courts for early conviction in cyber crimes matters.

Conviction in the existing judicial system was very time consuming in nature, Nasscom president Kiran Karnik told said on the sidelines of the ITeS-Bpo Conclave in Kolkata.

He said Nasscom had made suggestions to the government that a separate bench be set up to handle cyber crimes for early conviction.

Besides a separate court would instill confidence in the minds of the foreign firms whose jobs were being outsourced to India, he said.

Commenting on the incidents of cyber crimes, Karnik said that compared to other countries, India was still a safe and secure destination. "However, there is no room for complacency."

While in India, such incidents took place once in five or six months, in other countries it was a dime a dozen. However, the crucial issue was that of certainty and conviction.
