Palkhivala's death condoled by leading personalities

Luminaries from the world of business and politics on Wednesday said in the death of N A Palkhivala, the country had lost a multi-faceted personality.

A V Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla said: "Palkhivala was an institution by himself."

Vijay Kalantri, president of All India Association of Industries, said: "Palkhivala was not only an authority on the Constitution of India but also fought cases for public causes. He will always be remembered for his post-Budget speeches."

"His simplicity and humane qualities has touched one and all," Kalantri said, adding that the association had given him lifetime achievement award in 1997.

Congress leader Murli Deora said: "The country has lost a great human being who was a champion of all the deserving causes."

Deora said he began his public life by attending the first lecture of Palkhivala at the Nesli Sawhni programme for Democracy where he had said 'punishment of wise men who refused to take part in the affairs of government is to live under the government of unwise men.'
