Microsoft Corporation India on Friday launched its anti-piracy program - the 'Genuine Windows - How to Tell' campaign.

Aimed at educating the Indian consumer, the campaign enumerates two distinct identifiable features to ascertain the authenticity of the operating system in the PC - the Certificate of Authenticity and the edge-to-edge hologram CD.

A PC pre-loaded with a Genuine Microsoft Windows XP will have a COA label attached to the body of the PC (CPU).

An Edge-to-Edge Hologram CD features a three-dimensional holographic image over the entire surface of the CD. This holographic image is part of the CD itself. It is not a sticker and makes it easier to identify Genuine Windows XP.

Commenting on the launch, Rishi Srivastava, business group head, Microsoft India said, "According to our estimates, 40 per cent consumers do not know that buying a branded PC does not ensure that the operating system coming along with it is also genuine."

Microsoft's 'How to Tell' campaign is aimed at educating these consumers and empowering them with the right information so that when they go and buy a computer they insist on Genuine Microsoft Software, he said.

"Genuine Microsoft Windows XP ensures greater reliability, faster access to updates and overall richer user experiences," he added.
