Eight leading mobile operators in the Asia Pacific region on Wednesday said they would invest up to $40 million in next three years to build and establish a shared regional mobile infrastructure with a view to offering better services to their respective subscribers while roaming.

The member operators are SingTel (Singapore), SingTel Optus (Australia), Maxis (Malaysia), Taiwan Mobile (Taiwan), Telkomsel (Indonesia), Globe Telecom (POhilippines), CSL (Hong Kong) and Airtel (India).

Named 'Bridge Alliance', the eight member operators claimed a combined subscriber base of 78 million.

The alliance held a meeting in New Delhi and said "member operators will get to enjoy significant commercial benefits and economies of scale, which will enable them to deliver better value and differentiated mobile services to their customers."
