The Bombay High Court on Tuesday extended till August 31 its interim order restraining Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and Maharashtra government from considering fresh proposals for development of mill lands in the city.
Hearing a petition filed by Bombay Environmental Action Group, Justice F I Rebello and Justice S Kukday extended the stay granted earlier in view of an appeal filed by the aggrieved parties in the Supreme Court.
Bombay Mill Owners Association, Rashtriya Mill Mazdoor Sangh and National Textile Corporation filed an appeal in the apex court challenging the interim order of Bombay high court staying development of mill lands in the city.
The Supreme Court has kept the matter for hearing on May 4. The High Court had earlier directed the state to file an affidavit disclosing details of the mills owned by National Textile Corporation and also of private mills.
The court also asked the BMC to file details of mills, ward-wise, describing the area occupied by structures and total area of each mill.
The court directed the BMC to furnish details of mills that have applied for land development under the Development Control Regulation 58 of 1991 and 2001. The court also wanted to know when the mills were granted permission, the nature of the permission and the area involved.
The Bench has asked the details of areas available in case of redevelopment to MHADA, for open areas/parks and to mill owner/developer as per the plans approved under the Regulations 58 of 1991.
It has asked BMC to furnish details of mills that are being rehabilitated/revived or being modernised under Regulation 58 of 1991 and 2001.
