Marlboro cigarettes in India soon

September 17, 2003 20:53 IST

Popular American cigarette brand Marlboro will be soon imported and sold in the country by Anchor group company Nivedit Tobacco Co.

A marketing alliance has been forged with Nathan Export Inc. to sell the cigarette made by US-based Phillip Morris Inc at 'consumer-friendly' prices, company chairman P N Das said.

At present, Marlboro cigarettes are sold in India either through direct import or through unofficial channels.

Nivedit is also launching the Armenian cigarette brand 'Cigaronne' in the next few months, Das told a news conference in New Delhi.

The cigarette, which has a longer filter than other cigarettes to reduce the effect and direct smoke, is sold in 65 countries at present, he said.
