London Chamber to set up 250 learning centres

July 17, 2007 10:24 IST
The London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which provides vocational and business-related qualifications under its LCCI International qualifications, plans to establish a wider footprint in the country, starting with the establishment of 250 centres of learning and resource centres in Gujarat.

The chamber had set up its first overseas centre in Mumbai as early as 1898, and has now extended it to 14 centres in Pune and 15 corporate education centres in Bangalore.

In Gujarat, the chamber is looking at a maximum growth owing to a large number of students aspiring for a UK accreditation. Centres would be established in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Mehsana and Bhavnagar among others.

The centres will offer 100 qualifications and 30 diplomas in different fields including business studies, book keeping and accounts, Business English and IT, managerial principles, secretarial administration and others of varied durations.

The courses are of a duration of 90-240 hours depending on qualifications and fees are pegged at Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000 for certificate courses and between Rs 28,000 and Rs 45,000
for the diploma courses.

LCCI will be hiring close to 700 faculty members for the centres in Gujarat in the next one year. It is planning to introduce courses on international call centre operations and retail.

"We are looking to open new centres in Gujarat to offer business training programmes since a large number of students here would benefit from the academic credits. We will also be collaborating with a number of universities and schools in Gujarat in the coming few months," said Mohan Kumar Giri, MD, LCCI India.

He added that students in India would be able to use LCCI qualifications as a springboard to professional studies abroad since it is associated with the Association of Chartered Accountants, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and other major academic associations.

So far, LCCI has certified 600 school and college students and has provided training to over 3,000 corporates across India.
