President A P J Abdul Kalam will dedicate the Kinfra Food Processing Park at Kakkanchery in Malappuram district to the nation on September 25.

The Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) spokesperson, K N Srikumar, said the park had been developed at a cost of Rs 19.50 crore (Rs 195 million) with an assistance of Rs 4 crore (Rs 40 million) from the Union ministry of food processing.

The zone caters to fruits and vegetables processing industries, milk products, poultry and meat products, and the grain-processing industry.

All the parks set up by Kinfra would include facilities such as developed land, dedicated power, continuous water supply, communications facilities as well as supporting social infrastructure such as administrative block, bank, post office and round-the-clock security.

He said, "Kinfra undertakes development of specific industrial parks based on the availability of raw materials and natural resources of the region."

At the Kakkanchery food park, the land development work has been completed.

Construction of common facility building as well as design work in respect of water supply, power supply and cold storage facility have also been completed, he added.

Kinfra has also finished the construction of 33/11 kv substations and the internal power distribution (phase 1) work. It has also handed over these facilities to the Kerala State Electricity Board.

The primary treatment of all effluents to the common system will be undertaken by the industries themselves at their premises as per the norms of the State Pollution Control Board, said Srikumar.

The Central Warehousing Corporation has been allotted 4.21 acres of land for setting up the cold storage facility in the park and the quality assurance lab will be set up in two phases, which will consist of three sections, he said.

Companies such as Parison Foods, Foster Foods, Merry Times Foods, Falcon Foods and Rime Rich Foods have been allotted industrial sheds, Srikumar added.
