With jet fuel prices hiked by 2.5 per cent, Jet Airways on Friday increased fuel surcharge on its tickets by Rs 200 with effect from tomorrow, raising airfares.

Other airlines like Kingfisher and Air India are yet to take a decision in the matter, their officials said.

The Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) price at Delhi's T3 airport was hiked by Rs 1,429 per kilolitre (kl), or 2.5 per cent, to Rs 57,689
per kl with effect from today. ATF prices vary from airport to airport, depending on the local sales tax or VAT.

A Jet spokesperson said, "With the recent hike in ATF prices, Jet Airways has decided to increase its fuel surcharge by Rs 200 per domestic sector.

"This will be applicable on all flights of Jet Airways, Jet Airways Konnect and JetLite, for sale and travel effective September 17, 2011", the spokesperson said. Jet fuel makes up for over 40 per cent of an airlines' operating cost.
