Attempting to woo IT firms into the state with an "investor friendly" image, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti is leading a delegation to Bangalore on Tuesday to showcase her state for potential investors.
Bharti will be accompanied by Madhya Pradesh Minister for Commerce and Industry Kailash Chawla and senior industry department officials to highlight the new industrial development policy of the state Bharatiya Janata Party government, which has vowed to attract investment of Rs 30,000 crore (Rs 300 billion) to Rs 40,000 crore (Rs 400 billion) in the state.
The Confederation of Indian Industry has partnered with Madhya Pradesh in the state's attempt to dispel notions of it being a slow starter in wooing industry and generating employment for its people.
A CII statement said in Bangalore that Tuesday's interaction would be the second in the series after a successful meet at Mumbai held in June.
Though MP has been considered backward, the state has earned several credits in implementing IT and e-governance, including "Gyandhoot", the successful empowerment through IT project in the tribal district of Dhar.
Indore is the only city in Madhya Pradesh on the IT map, where US-based Computer Sciences Corporation has a development centre, besides other smaller firms.
A similar delegation from West Bengal is expected in Bangalore this week, which plans to showcase Salt Lake, the modern suburb on Kolkata's outskirts as an ideal IT investment location.
