Biggest challenge before the computer companies is to ensure the reach of the computers to the masses, as at present the computer-consumer ratio in the country is dismal, Intel District Manager, South Asia, Vinesh Paperwala, saidĀ in IndoreĀ on Monday.

"Computer-consumer ratio in the country is very low, just three PCs per 1,000 persons, and this is the biggest challenge before the computer manufaturers in the country," Paperwala told reporters during Intel's channel conference to make dealers aware of the company's latest products.

Referring to the development of simputer and its potential
for bridging the wide gap between computer and people, he said, "No doubt the simputer is a good device, but it has limited operations. It has limitations as compared to personal computers".

"In fact, people are now moving towards purchasing laptops to fulfil their day-to-day needs", he said, adding that Intel is also developing latest technology-based laptops.

Intel has a market share of 80 to 85 per cent at present, he informed.
