March 12, 2009 09:38 IST

For people looking for jobs, it is easier to find one if they are Google Talk users. Info Edge promoted Naukri.com has launched NaukriOnChat wherein you can find job opportunities by adding jobs@chat.naukri.com as a friend in your Gtalk list of friends. Then, after typing 'help' to get instructions, just follow them to get going on your search for new job opportunities.

"Gmail users can both search and apply on Naukri but if you are not registered on Naukri with a Gmail id, you can still search for jobs and view job descriptions, but can't apply," said Vibhore Sharma, senior vice-president, Product and Technology, Info Edge (India). The user may note the jobs he wishes to apply to and can then log on to his Naukri account whenever he wants to apply.

'NaukriOnChat' is intended to find jobs easily without having to visit the website and this is a complete process of not only searching for jobs, but also viewing job details and applying for them.

The company chose Google Talk because it has a large user base and has a faster Application Programming Interface or API. "But we do plan to extend the service on Yahoo! and MSN also," Sharma is quick to explain. There has been no official tie up with Google and this is only an extended capability on Gtalk, he maintains.

The portal had done a pilot with 100,000 users to see the performance of this application in February this year and has commercially launched it now. The company wants all its 16 million users to benefit from this application and is not planning to monetise the medium as yet.
