Govt plans to set up 3 new IITs

Government proposes to set up three new Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in Bihar, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Monday.

In addition, two new Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research in Bhopal and Thiruvananthapuram and two new Schools of Planning and Architecture in Vijayawada and Bhopal are proposed to be set up during the XIth Plan period, Minister of State for HRD D Purandeswari said in a written reply.

Government also proposed to set up 20 new Indian Institutes of Information Technology in various states during the period under public private

partnership mode, she said.

It is also proposed to upgrade the infrastructure facilities in one polytechnic in each of the 177 Specially Identified Districts in the country, she added.

Enrolment: Drop out rates in primary stage (Class I-V) have declined from 34.9 per cent in 2002 to 29 per cent in 2004/05, Purandeswari said. While 1,224 lakh students have been enrolled in Class I-V during 2002-03, it rose to 1,308 lakh in 2004-05, she added. Sex Education : Government has received no proposal for including 'sex education' and "moral education", Minister of State for HRD M A A Fatmi said in a reply.
