The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur campus will soon open a study-cum-placement extension centre in Noida at a cost of Rs 25 crore (Rs 250 million), its registrar said on Monday.

The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated four acres of land for the project in sector 62 of the satellite township near Delhi, IIT-Kanpur Registrar Sanjeev Kashalkar told PTI.

Due to non-availability of air services to Kanpur city, the multinational companies are finding it hard to conduct placements for students, he said adding, the alumni of the premier institute who were based at abroad were also facing problems in visiting their alma mater.

Kashalkar said that the proposal for opening an extension centre was sent to the Human Resource and Development Ministry, which would provide financial assistance from the next financial year. The building, to be partially funded by the Kanpur campus, will cost Rs 25 crore (Rs 250 million).

The new campus will have a spacious auditorium and seminar halls for organising national and international conferences besides guest house and students' hostels, he said.

The IIT would also organise refresher courses at the centre for the multi-national companies science and technology.
