IBM India lab: Over 90 engineers & growing

India Research Laboratory of IBM, the youngest of eight such research centres of the company worldwide, has grown to accommodate more than 90 engineers working on cutting edge technologies.

"The India lab of IBM is the youngest among the eight such centres worldwide and since its inception in 1998, its team of engineers has grown to more than 90," a spokesperson of the lab said.

The lab is working on technologies strategic to IBM, he said.

Apart from services and sciences, IBM's India Research Lab is working on nanotechnology, voice technology, autonomous computing, personal systems, life sciences and data management.

Located on the campus of Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi, the lab also focusses on areas critical to expanding the country's technology infrastructure.

It has significant initiatives in electronic commerce, e-governance, unstructured information management, e-business on demand, natural language processing, grid computing and human-computer interaction.

Currently, lab researchers are working on more than a dozen projects, some in collaboration with other IBM labs, three of which are in the United States and one each in Zurich, Israel, China and Japan.
