HP sets up innovation lab for 3G at IIIT-B

Hewlett-Packard on Friday announced setting up of a lab at the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore campus to undertake technology research to serve the needs of telecom service providers in the 3G space.

This will be the first lab in India that will facilitate students from IIIT-B to undertake projects on HP's IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) network architecture built on the HP OpenCall software platform.

The lab will specially focus on developing standards-based applications to offer multimedia features and other value-added services that can be deployed by the telecom service providers. HP will also provide the hardware, software and technical expertise required.

"This lab will provide a unique opportunity for the students at IIIT-B to undertake projects on emerging technologies in the telecom space," said Marie-The' Sarrasin, head of operations of OpenCall Software, Hewlett-Packard.

"The HP OpenCall-based solutions for IMS networks are expected to create many business prospects for the telecom industry and the students can definitely capitalise this learning in their future endeavours."

Inaugurating the lab, S Sadagopan, director, IIIT-B said, "This initiative will further boost our research efforts at the Centre for Telecom Research (C-Tel). IIIT-B and HP have been sharing close working relationship to develop cutting-edge technology in different areas, and going forward, are committed to keep up this momentum."

"Over the years, IIIT-B has earned a reputation as a centre of excellence for higher studies in Information Technology under the able leadership of S Sadagopan," said Subrahmanyam Vempati, vice-president and general manager, HP India.

"At the research lab, HP will bring forth the expertise and domain knowledge and share a common platform with the students to create next generation technology concepts for the telecom industry."

HP OpenCall software suite improves operational efficiency with rapid and easy delivery of new services and enhances profitability for the telecom services providers.
