Recruitment activities declined for the second consecutive month in June this year amid challenging economic conditions, a survey by job portal Monster.com has said.

The Monster.com's employment index, a monthly gauge of the country's online job demand, declined by 1.56 per cent to 126 in June, from 128 points in the previous month.

"The pace of recruitment growth is moderate as employers continue to exhibit a cautious approach owing to the challenging economic environment," Monster.com managing director (India, Middle-East, South East Asia) Sanjay Modi said.

A sector-wise analysis showed that even amid tough economic conditions, hiring in some sectors like education, media and entertainment, logistics and agro based industries continued in June.

"There are pockets of elevated demand

that suggest relatively favourable conditions in occupations like arts, healthcare, and sales," Modi noted.

The index is an indicator of monthly online demand for jobs and is based on a real-time review of millions of employer job opportunities culled from a large, representative selection of online career outlets, including Monster India.

In June, online job availability declined in as much as 20 of the Index's 27 industry sectors; increased in four and remained unchanged in three occupational categories monitored.

The month saw an increase in demand for technically qualified professionals in healthcare, logistics and in the arts and creative field.

In terms of cities, out of the 13 under review, 7 saw a decline in online demand for jobs, while it increased in cities like Mumbai, Kochi, Coimbatore and Jaipur. For cities like -- Bangalore and Baroda it remained unchanged.
